How to sterilise glass bottles
Sterilising glass bottles or jars is crucial to keeping your cordial, gin, jam or other culinary creations goods fresh for longer.
The process involves heating the glass to a temperature where no harmful bacteria can survive - it's this bacteria that poses a risk to spoiling your homemade goods.
Turn the oven on to 160º (fan) | 180º (conventional)
Remove any plastic or rubber seals and pop them in boiling water for 2 - 3 minutes
Wash the bottles / jars and lids in hot, soapy water but do not dry them
Pop the clean, wet bottles or jars upside down on a roasting tray
"Cook" the jars in the oven for 15 minutes
Reattach the plastic or rubber seals carefully
Fill the bottles or jars immediately to avoid contaminating them
